Pricking Your Way to Health: The Benefits of Acupuncture

More and more people are now open to the Eastern medicine and therapy, including the use of Asian styles of massage. Several types of massage originated from the east such as the shiatsu, reflexology, and the Thai massage. Aside from herbal medications originating from different parts of Asia, another exotic treatment that has achieved worldwide recognition is called acupuncture. It is one of the most common medical procedures practiced in China, Japan, Korea and other parts of the world.

Acupuncture involves the activation or stimulation of certain anatomical points in the body by use of various techniques. Medical traditions coming from Korea, China, Japan, and other Asian countries are the basis for the American practice of acupuncture. This specific health procedure includes the penetration of thin, solid metal needles that are handled manually or by the use of electrical stimulation. These needles are not that painful when inserted through the skin, but it has a different feeling with minimal pain involved. There are different experiences when this kind of medication is exercised. After being treated, some people feel energized, while others feel much more relaxed. It is important to have this medical procedure done by a professional acupuncture practitioner, since an improper placement of the needle, unnecessary movement of the patient, or a needle defect can cause pain and soreness during the course of the treatment.

Acupuncture can be used as an alternative treatment for health conditions such as postoperative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting and for postoperative dental pain. This procedure is also useful in the healing of other health concerns like headaches, menstrual cramps, addiction, stroke rehabilitation, lower back pain, tennis elbow, myofascial pain, fatigue, osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, asthma, and fibromyalgia.

This type of alternative treatment can ease the pain of the mentioned ailments above, as well as fibromyalgia. Since this illness may not be known by most people, fibromyalgia refers to a widespread of pain in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This ailment is also characterized by fatigue and numerous tender points, or certain areas in a person's body where a slight pressure can cause pain.

Acupuncture is also used to treat several conditions just like fibromyalgia, and this can also be a form of relaxation, as stated earlier. Considering fatigue is caused by excessive exhaustion, weariness, tiredness or lethargy, the practice of this healing treatment can make the body feel relaxed and at the same time cures ailments by using these thin metal needles.

The practice of acupuncture cannot be explained fully by western health research. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, acupuncture treatment is used to achieve balance between two inseparable forces, the yin and the yang, which exist in the human body. Chinese practitioners use certain points along the so-called body meridians as targets for inserting the needles. These points correspond to a specific internal organ. The stimulation of the point brings healing to the ailing internal organ and allows the flow of internal energy or “chi” to go unhindered, resulting in perfect balance and health inside the human body. While this healing method has been used for thousands of years, it is still a subject of intense debate especially in the Western medical community.

Celexa And Cymbalta As Anxiety Treatments

Stress and anxiety have become such an integral part of modern urban life, and it is no wonder that the market now is riddled with numerous drugs designed to lower these all-too-common human problems. It is not exaggeration to say that most people living and working in the city, particularly those climbing up the government bureaucracy or the corporate ladder, have had to take a “chill pill” or two.

The fact is, with the modern world's focus on success and the “bottom line,” the average Joe always lacks the time to unwind and vent. Some, with utter resignation, would just point to the mysterious signs on the back of the US dollar and understand why they have to be “slaves” even in the 21st century.

Of course, this particular situation is a veritable goldmine for folks who make the aforementioned “chill pills.” Stress, fear, anxiety, and whatever else might fit into their category all have a drug or two that is designed to help deal with the effects. These drugs, which often tackle certain chemical transmitters in the central nervous system, can sometimes be made to target a number of conditions at once. However, it is generally more common to see drugs that target either specific or related conditions.

A prime example of this would be Cymbalta, an anti-anxiety and anti-depression drug. While by no means an obvious choice, Cymbalta for anxiety is gaining ground for being an effective medication for dealing with anxiety problems. Recent studies have shown that using Cymbalta for anxiety disorders is on the increase, though it is not quite as obvious a choice as cymbalta use for depression. This is likely due to the availability of more prominent medications that are on the forefront, whereas cymbalta for anxiety treatment is relatively new.

Celexa anxiety medication is also gaining ground in terms of commercial use and doctor-preference. Celexa anxiety treatment also works by targeting the central nervous system but the set of neurotransmitters and receptors in the brain are different. Celexa anxiety drugs have not been found to have any noticeable or significant effects on other psychological disorders, though research is still being conducted in this regard. Celexa anxiety prescriptions are really no more frequent than other potential anxiety treatments, though there are several patient testimonials that attest to the efficacy of celexa anxiety pills.

Of course, celexa anxiety and cymbalta for anxiety are not the only anti-anxiety medications on the market. There are still several other drugs out there, with similarities and differences from the examples mentioned above. A vast majority of them affect the chemical component of the central nervous system, which is believed to be the non-mental root of most anxiety-related disorders.

Facts about Tramadol

Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever. It is used to treat moderate to severe pain and to moderate to severe chronic pain.

Tramadol should not be taken if the patient has a history of alcohol or drug addiction. It should not be taken also if you are intoxicated.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

Decreased size of the pupil (the black circle in the center of the eye), difficulties in breathing, extreme drowsiness, unconsciousness, coma, seizure and heart attack.

Important Reminders before taking Tramadol:

Take tramadol exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take more than 300 milligrams in one day. Do not stop using this medication without talking to your doctor. You may in time need to slowly reduce the dose. Withdrawal symptoms may occur when you stop using tramadol and they are the following: anxiety, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, tremors, chills, hallucinations, trouble sleeping, or breathing problems. Call your doctor right away if you experience any of those symptoms.

A tramadol overdose can be fatal. So while you are taking tramadol, do not drink alcohol or use a drug that makes you sleepy (such as cold medicine, other pain medications, and muscle relaxants, medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety).

These drugs may slow your breathing or increase drowsiness when used together with tramadol. Like any other drug, tramadol can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or give you allergic reactions. It is not advisable to take this medicine when you are planning to drive or requires you to do anything that you need to be mentally alert.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, a stomach disorder or history of mental illness or suicide attempts in the past. Do not use tramadol during pregnancy; it may be harmful to the unborn baby. It can cause fatal side effects in a new born if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy.

The Significance of using Cyclobenzaprine Drug

Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to your brain. It s a skeletal muscle relaxant and a central nervous system (CNS) depressant. It is used to relieve pain, tenderness, and limitation of motion caused by muscle spasms. The duration for taking this drug is basically for short term treatments that goes for 2 to 3 weeks. It is best to take this while resting or during physical therapy.

The exact mechanism of action for cyclobenzaprine is unknown. Current research appears to indicate that cyclobenzaprine acts on the locus coeruleus where it results in increased norepinephrine release, potentially through the gamma fibers which innervate and inhibit the alpha motor neurons in the ventral horn of the spinal cord.

The decreased firing of the alpha motor neuron results in reducing muscular tone. Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant acting primarily on the central nervous system. It is structurally similar to Amitriptyline, differing by only one double bond. Cyclobenzaprine is a weak inhibitor of presynaptic, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Skeletal muscle relaxant activity is due to brainstem mediated inhibition of gamma motor neurons

The standard side effects of Cyclobenzaprine includes drowsiness, depression, headaches, dizziness, and blurred vision. It's long term used has been associated with vision damage. Another side effects are dryness of the mouth, respiratory depression, decreased functionality in various muscles, and agitation ----which is a commonly found in elderly people.

Although allegedly obnoxious, cyclobenzaprine is moderately benevolent in case of overdose, depending on its toxicity level and also on the susceptibility of the user. Take note that the cyclobenzaprine damaging effects increases when used in conjunction with other drugs, particularly that deals with nervous system depressants and anti- depressants.

The use of cyclobenzaprine with an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor) will possibly result in fatality. A case of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) associated with its overdose has been reported in some scientific literatures. This is a rare but potentially fatal complication. Therefore, follow treatment protocols just as the same for any tricyclic anti- depressant.
